Most people play too small, they try live life on easy mode. Setting goals and aspirations low is a way to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of failure.

Yet most people would see more success through setting goals high and failing vs setting their goals low and succeeding.

"If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success." - James Cameron

When you keep your goals small you're limiting yourself, you create an artificial ceiling to what you can achieve.

"The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark." — Michelangelo

Through having high aspirations for yourself you start to take very different steps than if you were to aim low.

Aiming high isn't easy because you will fail. But I'd much rather aim high and fail high than aim low and succeed.
