When everything is important, nothing gets done

July 24, 2022
Edition #083

Hey friends, happy Sunday!

Greetings from Manchester.

Crazy week for me, this thread popped off and acted as a catalyst for 4x'ing the audience of this newsletter, so welcome to all the new people (feel free to reply to this email and introduce yourself :))

For all those interested in the data, here are the stats of how many people that 1 thread reached 🤯

A few things I want to share with you this week.

How to get Lucky (without being rich): Luck can be manufactured, in this video I share some ways to increase the luck in your life.

Full stack creator: The Full stack creator is an idea I can't shake, recently I updated the article to be a little more comprehensive.

Alrighty, let's get into the Filter!

One Lesson

When everything is important, nothing gets done

Recently on a sales call I asked "What happens when you receive a lead to your current website?" The answer.... "I'm not sure, I think whoever sees it forwards it to the CEO, but I'm not sure".

This person was in charge of their website...

See every week I talk to founders, marketers and freelancers who have no real idea of how their business works on the inside.

Sure they can tell you who they help and how, but ask about their project management system and there's an awkward silence.

Most companies are great at putting together an offering but they suck at creating efficient systems for their team to work within.

Everyday they mutter "I'm so busy" or "I don't know what I should be working on" but they're missing the point.

The reason these problems exist is because of a lack of prioritisation, which stems from a lack of codified systems.

See when you have systems in place everyone knows what they should be doing and when. You can spot things that should be eliminated (busy work) and things that should be automated (repetitive tasks).

You might still have a lot of work to get through but you're able to prioritise, you can see what's most important and what shouldn't be done at all.

This lack of efficiency is creating a new opportunity, something I'm calling the "Automation Integrator".

Their job is to come into companies and use no-code tools to design and build efficient systems. Essentially their job is to make everyone else's job easier.

We're already seeing the first wave of this with "Notion Experts" who help companies setup efficient systems inside Notion.

And this is only the beginning, over the next few years there will be an intense focus on efficiency making it a great time to get your operations in order.

If anyone is in this automation space I'd love to chat to you (just reply to this email).

Two Ideas

I.

Think like an artist.
Train like an athlete.
Work like an accountant.
Build like an entrepreneur.

II.

Success is pointless without freedom.

Don't make trade-offs that gain you conventional success (money, fame & status) at the expense of your freedom.

Three Favourite Finds

The power of sunlight: It's easy to overcomplicate health. But it's usually pretty simple ( just not easy). I've been binging so much of Andrew Huberman's content lately, I highly recommend trying this out!

5 years of books & courses or how I made $369,000 on the side: This is a fantastic story about going from freelancer / employee to building a profitable product based business.

When the Money’s Just Too Damn Good: The pull of money can often get in the way of you achieving your goals. In this essay Nat Eliason shares how his need to constantly make more and more money has led to him neglecting what he actually cares about… writing.

END NOTE

The Sunday Filter relies on word of mouth to reach more people, if you’re enjoying the newsletter I’d really appreciate you sending it to a friend or sharing on Twitter.

Have a fantastic week!

- Stephen

p.s it's me

p.p.s those streaming companies are getting desperate...
