Live with intensity
Howdy folks, I've spent all week rounding up the most interesting things I've found on the internet to help you become happier, healthier and wealthier.
Just one thing to share with you before we get into the Filter — a video I posted a few weeks ago: I wish I knew this about FREELANCING 5 Years Ago
Alrighty, let's get into the Filter 🤠
Live with intensity
I get this weird feeling at the gym.
It's a mixture of anger, motivation, and disappointment.
Not because I've failed a PB, but because of other people.
See, few things bother me, I'm happy 98% of the time and generally have a stoic outlook on life.
But one thing that frustrates me is unfulfilled potential.
I see people using the gym as a momentary distraction from their phones. They do one set, spend the next five minutes scrolling, and repeat.
It’s as if they feel like progress comes from their body being there, but not their mind.
Modern society has cultivated this attitude that just going through the motions is enough.
But without intensity, you'll never reach your potential.
What frustrates me is that people live like they have infinite time. They don't feel the urgency to reach their potential, so they never do.
I'm not saying you should be a highly-strung workaholic, but you should apply intensity to the things that matter.
On the flip side, I find this incredibly motivating. I see people waiting around looking at their phones like they're waiting for someone to give their life purpose.
My competitive nature sees this as an opportunity. If you can just learn to focus and apply yourself with intensity you’re already ahead of most people.
I.
So much time is wasted by half-assing things
Instead of putting 75% effort into 10 cold pitches
Put 110% effort into 3
The Internet disproportionately rewards those who put the effort in to stand out
II.
This week I have a question for you:
If you had an extra 10 hours per week dedicated solely to learning, what skill would you learn and why?
The REAL Reason Europe Took Over the World: The level of content being produced on YouTube is mind blowing. The storytelling, research, sound design and animation in this video are all incredible.
Tools I’m loving:
Raycast: I’ve been using Raycast for the last couple of weeks and i'm so impressed. It’s essentially the same as Alfred but with way more bells and whistles. The ability to easily install extensions for all your favourite apps is a game changer.
Arc: Woww, this browser is so good. The design makes it delightful to use but the best feature for me is being able to create separate spaces and profiles within the same browser. I have different spaces and profiles setup for the different projects I’m working on, that way I’m always logged into the right accounts and have the tabs I need.
There’s still a waitlist to get access but the first 5 people to use this link should be able to get early access.
How to read a balance sheet: This is an awesome thread breaking down how to understand a businesses balance sheet. I’m gonna need to read this a few times to fully understand 😅
Also I love this quote “If it looks and smells like sh*t… very rarely is it Nutella.”
END NOTE
The Sunday Filter relies on word of mouth to reach more people, if you’re enjoying the newsletter I’d really appreciate you sending it to a friend or sharing on Twitter.
Have a fantastic week!
