Freedom first, big swings second.
Howdy folks, I've spent all week rounding up the most interesting things I've found on the internet to help you become happier, healthier and wealthier.
Alrighty let's get straight into the Filter this week!
Freedom first, big swings second.
Society often views entrepreneurship as a pursuit of hard work and taking huge risks. But what if there was another way to approach building a business?
What if we focused on freedom first, big swings second?
Typical entrepreneurship fetishises the high risk, high reward opportunities and for good reason. Building things that change the world is a nobel cause, but it's not where most people should start.
Instead the best stepping stone into entrepreneurship is to focus on one goal... FREEDOM.
As Andrew Wilkinson said 'You have to build the launchpad before you build the rocket'.
The freedom first approach to entrepreneurship is simple. You find a tried and tested business model, then you focus on being better than the competition in a couple of areas.
Things like service work, selling ads/sponsorships, high-ticket affiliates and digital products are all opportunities that have good potential upside with little to-no downside if you fail.
You don't need to raise capital or borrow money from family. The only investment is your time.
The launchpad business does not need to scale infinitely. You need something that can make $75k - $300k p/year in personal income.
Once you have that first win on the board taking big swings becomes a lot easier.

Learn to balance agency and patience then success becomes inevitable.
II.
Most value is stored in making difficult things easy.
Made to Stick: This book is incredible at helping you craft a compelling message. The subtitle explains perfectly what you learn: Why some ideas take hold and others come unstuck.
The Art of Fermenting Great Ideas: Brainstorming is BS. You can’t just sit down and expect to have great ideas on demand. Great ideas need to be fermented over time. That’s why most of your best work (if you’re a knowledge worker) is done in the moments between work… not when you’re in a ‘brainstorming session’.
Essays that became books: This list is fascinating, all of these essays were eventually turned into books. I personally prefer to read the essays because there’s no extra fluff added.
**BONUS FIND**
Ground rescue without landing: I mean, there’s no way this doesn’t cause lasting damage right?

The Sunday Filter relies on word of mouth to reach more people, if you’re enjoying the newsletter I’d really appreciate you sending it to a friend or sharing on Twitter.
